Châteauneuf du Pape

A characteristic that is original to the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation is its wide range of grape varieties. 13 grape varieties are authorized in their different colors: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Picpoul, Terret, Counoise, Muscardin, Vaccarèse, Picardan, Clairette, Roussanne and Bourboulenc.

Red wines

At Font de Michelle Grenache is king – nearly 70% of the surface area is planted with this grape type. The Black Grenache is exceptional when harvested at maturity giving small yields that impart richness, substance and its own typical characteristics to the wine.

As for the Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes, they add great aromatic complexity and an excellent ageing potential. The Cinsault, Terret, Counoise and Muscardin varieties complete this blending.

Red Châteauneuf du Pape wines from Font de Michelle are rich and elegant wines with the aromas of red and black fruits (Morello cherry, cassis, raspberry and blackberry), spices (pepper and cinnamon) and, with age, further notes of truffle, laurel, leather and blond tobacco. These are wines that can be aged for a very long time.

White wines

White Grenache, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Roussanne grapes make up the white Châteauneuf du Pape wines from Font de Michelle.

This blend gives dry white fruity wines with complex aromas of exotic and citrus fruits – wines that are fat and elegant. With age these wines take on notes that are honey-like and toasted.
